Golden Smog are a loosely connected group of musicians (arguably a supergroup) comprised, at various times, of members of Soul Asylum, The Replacements, Wilco, The Jayhawks, Run Westy Run, The Honeydogsand Big Star. The group took their name from the name of a Flintstones character, which, in turn, was a parody of singer Mel Torm's nickname; the Velvet Fog. The group first came together in the Minneapolis area in 1989 as a country-rockreaction to the punkand hardcoremusic that dominated the Twin Cities' musical scene at the time; eventually Golden Smog became something of a fixture at local clubs, where they would play a handful of shows annually. Golden Smog's lineup has often changed, though Run Westy Runguitarist Kraig Johnsonas well as guitarists Dan Murphy( Soul Asylum) and Gary Louris( The Jayhawks) were relative constants. The definitive beginning of Golden Smog is hard to pinpoint given the mercurial nature of the band's lineup.

It dont matter if I lose
Its how I play the fool
Somewhere down the line it all got
Twisted, torn, and tossed and thrown away
It all looks the same to me
What you want Ill never be
Chorus:
And I cant seem to get it right
But I wanna get off right now
I cant seem to get it right
But its all so wrong, somehow
Did you think I wouldnt return. did you think I wouldnt return
Did you think that I was dead. did you think that I was dead
Did you think Id crash and burn
Did you think it was my turn
Radio plays, Im coming down
Road stretches out, but it aint - lord Im home
Im not big on being amazed
Im in a haze, Im lost - nowhere bound
And all my friends they jumped the wagon
Parked today, tails a-waggin
(chorus)
